Horse Riding Tours in Mongolia

What better way to see Mongolia than as the locals do, by horse ?  Most nomadic families have a herd of horses, the size of the herd being a status symbol. In the summer months mare's milk is fermented to make "Airag", a drink which is much loved by all Mongolians and drunk in huge

quantities. We organise horse riding tours for charities, groups of friends and individuals. We will arrange horses to suit your riding experience as well as local guides, support vehicles, food and accommodation for your horse riding trek in Mongolia.

Mongolian Horses

The Mongol horse (Mongolian Адуу, aduu: "horse") in Northern Khalka, is the native horse breed of Mongolia. The breed is purported to be largely unchanged since the time of Genghis Khan. Nomads living in the traditional Mongol fashion still hold more than 3 million animals, which outnumber the country's human population. The horses live outdoors all year at +30 °C (86 °F) in summer down to −40 °C (−40 °F) in winter, and search for food on their own.

Mongolia Horse Riding

It is such a wonderful experience to ride a horse in Mongolia, especially to trek a long distance over several days. In this way, one can truly experience Mongolia as the local people do - enjoying the sights, sounds, smells and the weather in all their raw beauty. Most areas of Mongolia are suitable for riding, but we have chosen the province of Arkhangai where we have worked with some families for many years and know them to be reliable, providing healthy and good-tempered horses and friendly, hard working horsemen.

Horse Riding Type

01

Scheduled-Group Horse Riding

We have planned a horse trek which individuals and groups of friends are welcome to join. It is in the area of the Orkhon river valley in Central Mongolia and the route finishes at Kharkhorin once the capital of the Mongol Empire.

02

Tailor-Made Horse Riding

Our recommended itinerary for a tailor-made horse riding tour is set in Arkhangai province, travelling by jeep from one beautiful place to another and doing day-rides in the area. Stay in traditional ger camps in amazing locations.

Non-Riders are Welcome on every trip !

Non-Riders are welcome on every trip and can ride in one of the support vehicles. Mongolia horse riding adventures give you an opportunity to make great friends amongst the group as well as meeting local Mongolians and nomadic families living an ancient lifestyle that has changed little in centuries.

OTMT Team

Horse Riding Challenge

We rode for 200 km through the remote valleys of the "Khangai" Mountains of Central Mongolia, witnessing the traditional herding lifestyle of the Khalkh Mongols. We followed tracks through valleys and mountains, crossing rivers and passing through Ger encampments before finishing our journey at "Kharkhorin", the historic center of Genghis Khan's Mongol Empire.
