Mongolian Visas

Get Visa Application FormMost foreign tourists need a visa to travel to Mongolia, although there are a few exceptions such as citizens of Israel, Malaysia and the US. Regulations, requirements and visa costs change quite frequently, so it is always necessary to check with your nearest Mongolian Embassy for the latest information about travel to Mongolia. A list of Mongolian Embassies and consulates around the world can be seen here: Mongolian Embassies Abroad

Health and Insurance

Thanks to the climate and low population density, Mongolia is a relatively healthy country in which to travel. You may consider having the following vaccinations before you go: tetanus, polio, typhoid, hepatitis and rabies. Most important is that your tetanus is up to date. For the latest recommendations contact your doctor or pharmacist. Make sure that you arrange a good travel insurance which includes repatriation in an emergency situation.

Money and Banks

During your travel vacation in Mongolia you will find that US dollars cash are the most useful form in which to take your money. Some banks (but not hotels) will change travelers cheques. A few shops and hotels accept American Express and Visa cards, and there are a few cash machines in Ulaanbaatar, including one at the airport.

Safety

Mongolia is a relatively safe place, and women traveling alone are usually treated with respect and friendship. Normal sensible precautions should be taken to safeguard your belongings, especially in Ulaanbaatar.

Equipment and Clothing

Even during the summer months the weather in Mongolia is unpredictable, so you have to go prepared for everything. Everyone who makes a booking with us will receive a Tour Dossier listing all equipment, clothing and medicines that we advise you to take.

Shopping

Cashmere is probably Mongolia's finest product, with garments costing a fraction of what they would be in the West. Other good souvenirs include leather goods, traditional clothing and hats, wooden and felt crafts, and lovely landscape paintings.
