Experience the thrill of travelling in the mountains and valleys roamed by Genghis Khan and the Mongol hordes eight hundred years ago. Ride horses, camels and yak & cart as the locals do, hike in the rocks and meadows, and visit the great Erdene Zuu monastery, once the centre of Buddhism in Mongolia.

This is an active cultural tour in Central Mongolia, travelling on rough roads in 4 x 4 jeeps and staying in comfortable traditional ger accommodation in the most beautiful locations. Outside the city, most people live a nomadic lifestyle which has changed little in centuries and we will have an opportunity to spend time with a family, observing their fascinating culture and self-sufficient way of life.

We will enjoy Mongolia’s vast and varied scenery, including mountain, desert, forest and steppe zones. In the meadows above Tsenkher village there are hot mineral springs and one can sit under the stars on the edge of the forest in the hot rock pools.

	01 Sept	Arrive Ulaanbaatar.
	02 Sept	Drive to Khogno Khan. Overnight ger camp at the foot of the great granite mountain.Overnight ger camp.
	03 Sept	Hike or drive round the mountain to see a small Buddhist temple built beside the ruins of an old monastery. Overnight Khogno Khan ger camp.
	04 Sept	Jeep to Kharkhorin, the valley where Genghis Khan established his capital. Visit Erdene Zuu monastery and see the ceremonies of the Buddhist monks. Afternoon ride horses in the mountains.
	05 Sept	Jeep to Tsetserleg town,. Visit the local market and take lunch in a popular restaurant. Afternoon drive up into the mountains to Tsenkher hot springs. Evening bathe in the outdoor hot mineral baths on the edge of the forest.
	06 Sept	Visit a local family and see their way of life. Watch the horses being milked and maybe ride on a yak and cart. Afternoon ride horses in the mountains or explore on foot.
	07 Sept	Jeep to Elsen Tasarkhai, an area of big sand dunes and desert vegetation. Play in the sand dunes and evening ride camels in the area.
	08 Sept	Return to Ulaanbaatar. Evening concert of traditional music and dance at one of the theatres.Overnight hotel.
	09 Sept	Morning Ulaanbaatar city tour. Afternoon free for shopping.
	10 Sept	Depart.
