How To Book Your Mongolia Trip

Please see below the step-by-step instructions explaining how to book your visit to Mongolia with Off The Map Tours. Check out all the links and read each section carefully.

NOTE: Mongolian Embassy visa costs, rules and requirements may be different depending on the country where you are applying.

STEP 1:

When you've decided which tour you want to join, get in touch with us to check that it is up and running and there are still places available.

STEP 2:

Download our Terms and Conditions here: http://www.mongolia.co.uk/terms.html. Read and understand all relevent sections.

STEP 3:

Open or Download this:     PDF BOOKING FORM    and fill in required fields. Save the completed form and send it to us as an email attachment or print and fax or post it to us. Don't worry if you can't "Digitally Sign" it (you can do that when you arrive in Mongolia).   'HELP ME' How To Do It ?

STEP 4:

You will receive an on-line Tour Dossier and instructions for payment of the deposit by bank transfer.

STEP 5:

Transfer the "TOUR DEPOSIT" and secure your place on the tour. Note that the tour deposit is non refundable in case of cancellation. See here: Terms and Conditions Section 1 & 2

STEP 6:

Arrange travel insurance for your tour NOW at the time of booking. This will cover you in case you have to cancel, for example due to illness or injury before the start of the tour. You can stick with you own insurance company or try: http://www.worldwideinsure.com/

STEP 7:

Book your international flight to Ulaanbaatar and send us your flight information. See this page about different airlines to Mongolia: http://www.mongolia.co.uk/flights_to_mongolia.html

STEP 8:

Send a copy of your insurance certificate. We need to know the insurance company name, their 24-hour emergency telephone number and your policy number. If doing a motorbike tour it must cover you for riding a motorcycle of 450cc.

STEP 9:

Find out which Embassy of Mongolia or Mongolian Consulate is nearest to you. Apply for your Mongolian visa no more than 3 months before your date of arrival in Mongolia. Some Mongolian Embassies are listed here: http://www.mongolia.co.uk/mongolian_visa.html

STEP 10:

When you receive your invoice for the balance of payment, follow instructions for the transfer. This will be not later than 60 days before the start of your tour.

STEP 11:

If doing a motorbike tour, when you arrive in Mongolia and are allocated your motorbike you will have to pay a "MOTORBIKE SECURITY DEPOSIT". This is USD $700 or the equivalent amount in another major currency. The motorbike security deposit is FULLY REFUNDABLE at the end of the tour when you return the motorbike undamaged (we won't charge for normal wear and tear). Terms and Conditions are applied. See here: Terms and Conditions section 12 paragraph IV

What Our Customers Think

  • "We were very impressed with the organisation, variety of terrain and scenery, the food - delicious ! We think this just might be the best catered trip we have been on - the support, the bikes and their maintenance and the team in general. We will certainly be telling all our friends about how professional this trip was. We had a great time"

    Huw Williams (Wales)
  • We wish that we had more time to spend in Mongolia. What a fascinating place. Not only the Naadam Festival in Ulaanbaatar, but the many mini - Naadam Festivals we encountered in the countryside as well as the people and scenery were fantastic...

    Steve Sidebotham (Delaware, USA)
  • "We really enjoyed our time in Mongolia with the off-road experience and closeness to nature. The experience at the family ger was an emotional one. It struck a chord with me, somewhere deep inside. I could see the sense in their simple way of life, which I have not really been able to see in ours in the west"

    Joakim Hansson (Sweden)
  • "We really enjoyed all aspects of our trip. The itinerary was well organized. We felt like we had a good taste of the country. We especially liked meeting the nomadic family. The accommodations and food were all satisfying as well"

    Hans Schnegluth (Germany)
  • Many thanks for a great holiday in Mongolia it was amazing ! My dad finally managed to visit the place he had been speaking about for 30 years and it was everything and a lot more he ever imagined it to be, so thanks again for looking after us so well...

Why Us?

All the tours we do are to remote areas of Mongolia, far from good medical facilities. We are very conscious of this, which is why we give you plenty of advice before your tour about what to bring and how to train for a tour. We take our responsiblity for your safety seriously but clients must also remember that their behaviour, medicines, clothing and fitness will affect their enjoyment of the trip.

Of course, an adventure tour is by it's nature unpredictable and risky. But one can reduce the risks whilst maintaining the fun and excitement. We do this by providing good pre-tour advice, reliable vehicles, suitable equipment, and experienced staff.

We started running tours in Mongolia in 1998. Initially we did only mountain biking trips as that is our speciality, but later we branched out into hiking, horse riding and cultural trips. Since 2000 we have organized several charity fund-raising challenge events for UK charities including Macmillan, PDSA, the Girl Guides, Antony Nolan and others, often raising over £100,000 for the chosen charity.

In 2007 we bought our first fleet of Yamaha WR250F motorcycles and started doing motorbike tours. Since 2009 we have been replacing our Yamaha bikes with KTM 450EXC bikes and nowadays many of our tours are on motorbikes.

The tourist industry in Mongolia is still not well developed and because of the extremely harsh winter climate, tourism basically happens only during the brief summer: June through to the end of September. In fact, this is the main reason why Mongolian travel companies cannot compete on price with those countries in other parts of Asia where tourists can come all year round.

Therefore we aim to stretch out the tourist season by offering trips which are not so weather-dependent, for example train journeys and cultural tours using accommodation in guest houses which do not close down for the winter. This would directly support those small local businesses who struggle to survive from one tourist season to the next.
